Jason Lucio (b. 1970)

Jason Lucio has been carving since the early ageof 14 when his carvings consisted mainly of waterfowl. Since that time his work has expanded

to include all order

of birds. Owls, shorebirds, songbirds, hawks and herons have all been subjects of his work. He has a great fondness for the birds he carves and enjoys studying and

observing them in

their natural habitat.

Over the years Jason's work has excelled, receiving top honors at shows in Canada and the U.S. He is a two-time World Champion carver in the decorative decoy pairs competition in 2003 and 2004. He has won "2nd Best in World" in decorative decoy pairs at the 1989 1994 & 2002 World Championships and "3rd Best in World" in decorative life size wildfowl in 2005.

Named for their colorful resemblance to medieval court jesters, the Harlequin ducks are one of the most attractive of sea ducks.  While not as striking as the drake, the hen or female duck has distinctive features such as a prominent white ear patch that distinguishes her from similar brown colored hens.  Harlequins live most of the year in coastal marine environments but in the spring they leave to breed in fresh water streams.  With a unique mouse-like call, the Harlequin ducks are known as “sea mice” and “squeakers.”
